Seasonal Patterns

A personal story about the holidays.

In my family, when I was growing up, the wrapping paper WAS the main Christmas event. All the presents under the tree were magical works of art. They had many kinds of fabric ribbons, tinsel, unique paper and ALWAYS an ornament adorning the top. We each had our assigned ornaments that had been meaningfully collected and reflected different stages in our lives. I had a little porcelain snowboarder, a paper mache Dorthy from The Wizard of Oz. We got new ones each year. There were no tags, the ornaments told you who’s present was who’s. Looking back, I can really appreciate how much effort it all must have been for my mom and grandma. How many late nights in December they must have sat up under the tree, wrapping while I was asleep.
As an adult, I want nothing more than to help others make their own magical experience. Opening a beautifully wrapped gift makes the experience so much better, don’t you agree?
